This website/blog has been through a LOT over the years. Many iterations running many different software for many different purposes for the last… wow like 4 years or so? A long time for me.
The farthest back I can remember was when it was a Ghost blog. Before then I think it was just Nextcloud on this domain. That blog lasted a few months, and I actually wrote a fair bit on it. I even got some friends to write things since Ghost supports multi-user.
After Ghost it was Wordpress. This was when I switched from a hacky custom docker setup to YunoHost. I’m still on YunoHost but a lot of changes have been made since then. The site was on Wordpress for quite a while. Several months. I’m not sure what I used longer, Ghost or Wordpress. Overall though I liked Ghost better.
Eventually I got annoyed with Wordpress, it was simply too much for what I wanted, and I switched to Grav which claimed to be a simpler flat-file alternative. Grav still had a dashboard and all that. Eventually I just had too many issues with Grav and the Grav YunoHost package and it was getting quite troublesome.
Then was a brief span where the main page was DokuWiki. I thought it would be kind interesting to have my website be a wiki. But that wasn’t a great idea and I ditched it quickly. Ultimately I have no need of a wiki since Notion does that for me.
Recently, and also rather briefly, I hade a hand-made HTML landing page and a seperate WriteFreely blog. I liked the minimalism of WriteFreely but continually ran into issues with it. All sorts of strange bugs that forced me away from it. I might try it again one day.
And now finally, after all these years and knowing what I should be doing I finally gave in and am now using the Hugo static site generator. Static sites are just simpler and easier to manage and theme. Plus faster to deliver and cache.
Who knows what I’ll do next with this site. Only time will tell I guess. Will probably change many times more!
